Tom Russell’s Nova Beat Book Club

Tom Russell’s Nova Beat Book Club

Tom Russell has recently started the Nova Beat Book Club, an idea he had after one of his heavily laden bookshelves collapsed. Here’s Tom describing the idea behind the book club.

“Our first Nova Beat Book Club film for kicks…after the book shelf fell down I got this idea to pick out a few books every once and awhile and talk about them briefly…in case you haven’t read them. It’s the voice in these books that rings out…and I reference these two books in several of my songs. I reference Salinger and Greene in “East of Woodstock, West of Vietnam” And reference books in other songs…like on “Up in the Old Hotel.” I’m currently working on an essay about the time I met both Oscar Brand and Jean Ritchie on the same day….unreal. Pioneers of folk music. Please share these films and check out the books. Nova Beat Book Beat.”
